5 quilts march 6, 2023 from Making A Lather

 last report February 20, 2023

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. I decided that for 2023, rather than work a little on each one at a time, I would concentrate on just one. I still use the list to plan and look ahead.

Most of these have been posted, but, I need to move on with new projects. I feel as though I have been staring at the same list for forever. I know projects take ...

I decided that for 2023, rather than work a little on each one at a time, I would concentrate on just one. I still use the list to plan and look ahead. My focus will be circa 1880 until it is quilted and bound. It is my one monthly goal for February.

1. circa 1880-  More about this here.  I added borders and it is ...

radiant star finish from Making A Lather

May I introduce a very patient quilt that, now, has a chance to shine. I started radiant star quilt in 2012 as a class at a local quilt store.

I wrote the first blog post in 2016, mentioning that it might get a chance for a finish. Nope. not then.

I added it to 5 quilts in January 2023 by random number generator. I am glad I did, I finally could trust that it would get the attention it deserved.

I opened the project box, and realized it wasn't perfect, but, still very nice. I imagine the imperfect center ...

5 quilts February 3, 2023 from Making A Lather

 last report  5 quilts january 23, 2023

We took a mini little vacation and, now, it is time to regroup and recheck my goals. I have a new finish and change on the list for February. I always look forward to adding something new from my ufo list.

radiant star progress from Making A Lather

I had an open sew Saturday with the guild.  I needed a piecing project to take with me, since I mistakenly thought twisted braid( number 2) would not take the whole day. Circa is number one on the 5 quilt list. It is big and needs borders. I did not want to carry that. I opened radiant star ( number 3). It needed borders, too, but, is small enough to carry with me. I pressed it, ate a piece of candy for bravery, and, then, trimmed the edges. I really dread that step. One mistake, and the whole thing blows up ...

radiant star ufo from Making A Lather

I finished one of my 5 quilts, and, I was anxious to choose another for the list, so, that, I can ruminate about it and what needs to be done. This is an older UFO from 2012. I took a class at a local Quilt store. And we completed the top to this point that day. My mind was fried making it, and I let it disappear into the UFO void. I don't think it will intimidate me this time. It is low on the list, but, now, I know I can move it forward on it's turn ...

I decided that for 2023, rather than work a little on each one at a time, I would concentrate on just one. I still use the list to plan and look ahead. My focus will be dotty bow ties until it is a complete finish. Sea swept is my one monthly goal for January. SO, hopefully, I will have 2 finishes this month ...

3 Radiant Star Quilts, 3 Machine Quilting OptionsWe started... from Living Water Quilter

3 Radiant Star Quilts, 3 Machine Quilting Options

We started another 3 quilt machine quilting comparison series. This time we are looking at my Radiant Star quilt.

The first machine quilting option uses free-motion and ruler quilting to create a beautiful surface design.

WATCH

Watch the replay of Quilt Conversations LIVE! Episode 4  to learn how it was quilted with rulers to create space for  free motion quilting.

The second Radiant Star quilt is a patchwork of color.  This option looks at using the patchwork to contain free-motion quilting. This is perfect for practicing new quilting patterns.
